Jonathan Robinson

Johnathan Robinson is the head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach at Team Octopus Cartersville. Johnathan came from a wrestling background before starting Brazilian Jiu-jitsu in 2010. He  has always trained under Master Roberto Traven and received his black belt in 2018 from Master Traven himself. He started competing early in his BJJ career and has had continued success earning medals at various IBJJF competitions such as the Atlanta Open, New York Open, Miami Open, Nashville Open, and PanAm Championship. Johnathan also won his Fight 2 Win Pro debut and competed in NFC BJJ #4. Through teaching, he hopes to share his passion for the sport and competing while growing a strong BJJ family at Team Octopus.

An Vu

An Vu is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He started training in BJJ in 2014.
An started wrestling in high school at the age of 16. He has experience as an assistant coach for kids wrestling since 2011.

Anna Salome

Anna Salome began training Jiu Jitsu in 2009 under Master Roberto Traven in Atlanta, GA. After trying just one class, she fell in love with the sport and has been training and competing consistently ever since. Now, with years of experience and a myriad of competition successes, Anna is a black belt with a passion for learning and teaching the art. As a coach, Anna is driven to help empower others through the martial art she loves.

Elijah Pizzaro

Elijah started martial arts at the young age of 5 in karate class. Not long after, his dad introduced him to Jiu Jitsu. He’s trained some form of Jiu Jitsu for most of his life along with Judo and Greco-Roman wrestling in middle school and high school. After coming to Team Octopus in 2014, Elijah started practicing Jiu Jitsu with the Gi. As a coach, Elijah wants to see his kids succeed and enjoy their training.

Elijah enjoys competing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournaments regularly.

Guillerme Cury

Guillerme Cury, who goes by Gui, came from Curitiba, Brazil, to the United States in middle school. He always dreamed of being a martial artist and finally at the age of 19, Gui was able to finally start his journey of becoming a martial artist. He went to Wheeler High School where he met Douglas and Dhiego Lima who brought Gui to his very first gym. He competed the first week that he started training Jiu Jitsu. Soon thereafter martial arts became a part of his life.

He started dabbling in all the arts with just a pure curiosity. At the age of 22, Gui took his first mixed martial arts fight. He immediately fell in love training and competing in mixed martial arts. He turned pro in 2011 and now has a record of 8-4- 1. Gui dedicates his life to his family, students and mixed martial arts. In his free time Gui enjoys spending time with his children and enjoying life.

  • Held the amateur NFC belt at 155

Koon Lau

Koon Lau is one of the head coaches at Team Octopus. He is a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu & Karate. He has much experience in the martial arts and has a teaching career that spans over many years.

Koon started off his martial arts career at the age of 12 with Tang Soo Do. After winning various karate tournaments and achieving black belt status, he became a karate teacher during his high school years. Due to his devotion and passion for the martial arts, he decided to branch out to other forms and began training in Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Boxing and MMA.

His goal is to continue to learn and teach others about how martial arts can help boost self-confidence, promote good health, and stay in great shape.

Mohammad Ibrahim

Coach Mohammad started martial arts when he was at the ripe age of 12. He first got his black belt in Karate under Master Koo in Cartersville.  He then progressed onto MMA and BJJ once he was 15. At 16 he was entering grappling tournaments and consistently winning gold in the teens division. His time has now only been completely focused on BJJ, usually training 2-3 times a day and 6 days a week.  6 years into BJJ now Mohammad is a purple belt who has competed against and submitted multiple Brown belts in his career. Although he loves to compete, passing on his knowledge and experience to others is an absolute joy for him. His biggest goal in his BJJ career is to become a highly decorated world class black belt and also make a positive impact in his student’s lives.

Roberto Traven

Master Roberto Traven was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He first started training BJJ when he was 16 years old. Traven received his black belt after four years of hard training. He is a 6th degree black belt and is considered by many to be the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach in Georgia. He currently trains many UFC, WEC, and elite MMA fighters.

Roberto Traven is 6th degree Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with over 30 years of experience in training, competing, and teaching. He is a 2-time World Champion in the adult division (1998 and 1999), ADCC absolute champion in 1999, 2-time Pan American Champion in 2010 and in 2015, World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi IBJJF Champion Master 4 Division in 2017, World Master Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Champion, Master 4 Division in 2015 and 2015. He is the proud head coach of the Roberto Traven BJJ team with more than 600 students affiliated. Roberto Traven BJJ team has won the IBJJF team title in Georgia 13 times. Roberto Traven is also the head coach for Team Octopus’ BJJ Program.
