Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ)

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a martial art that promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend himself or herself against a stronger, larger person via proper techniques and leverage. Most fights end up on the ground and this is where Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is extremely useful.

Team Octopus offers a BJJ Beginner and BJJ Advanced class.

BJJ Beginner follows a strict curriculum that implements fundamentals and basic techniques essential to the beginner’s progression into the martial art. Each class begins with warm-ups involving movements and positions all beginners must familiarize themselves with in order to progress. A new technique is introduced in each class and everyone drills this technique until they become proficient and comfortable. Techniques involve basic submissions, passes, and escapes, as well as basic throws and takedowns.

BJJ Advanced is designed for the Brazilian Jiu-jitsu student wanting to advance to the next level. Classes begin with warm-ups, followed by comprehensive technique drilling, and end with live, optional rolling. White belts must first have taken BJJ Beginner classes in order to participate in this class.
